Trump has removed the chairman of the federal panel Congress created to oversee his administration’s management of the $2 trillion coronavirus stimulus package — the latest action by the president to undermine the system of independent oversight of the executive.

On April 1, 2020, if not for a court’s injunction, the Trump Administration’s cruel rule to take food assistance away from hundreds of thousands of Americans would have gone into effect.  SNAP, known for decades as "food stamps," is for families to put food on the table. Food so children don’t have to go to bed hungry.   SNAP gives on average just $1.40 per meal. It lifts 8 million out of poverty. And Republicans are eviscerating it.

In September 2018, the Trump administration received detailed plans for a new machine designed to churn out millions of protective respirator masks at high speed during a pandemic.

The plans, submitted to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) by the medical manufacturer O&M Halyard, were the culmination of a venture unveiled almost three years earlier by the Obama administration.

In 2018, health experts warned Trump: putting tariffs on medical products would hurt US preparedness for pandemics. He did it anyway.  

Now, Trump's tariffs are contributing to shortages at the time of a national health crisis.

An alarming unintended consequence of Trump’s misguided trade war with China has suddenly threatened to cripple the US fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. The administration’s tariffs on Chinese medical products may contribute to shortages and higher costs of vital equipment at a time of nationwide health crisis.

Government exists to protect its citizens, to serve them, to keep them safe.  Republicans have spent decades seeking to dismantle the rules that govern our society.  Now with a pandemic upon us, we face the consequences of Republican evil as they continue efforts to harm our most vulnerable.

The Budget Cuts Series for the fiscal year 2021 continues this week.  These cuts reflect what Trump and his Republican administration want to do to our country.  Most of it will not be implemented because Democrats will block it.  But the point is it shows us exactly what Republicans would want to do if they were given unchecked power.  These cuts are so completely absurd that it’s no wonder Senate Budget Committee Republicans don’t want to hold a hearing on his budget.

The Trump administration took another step to rip health care away from millions, announcing a new Medicaid proposal that lets states set funding caps which could lead to drastically lower funding for the program that provides health care for millions of low-income Americans.

Defending Medicaid from Trump can unify Democrats. It can bridge the gap between the young, non-white and/or urban voters in the base and the suburban whites Democrats hope to keep in their anti-Trump coalition through 2020.
