Middle of the Night Vote Confirms Rep. Tom Price as Secretary of Health and Human Services

In an overnight vote, the Senate confirmed Tom Price to be the next Secretary of Health and Human Services despite ethics issues regarding lucrative stock purchases of companies his legislation would directly impact. Price's primary role at HHS is expected to be overseeing the repeal of the Affordable Care Act and rollbacks to medicare and medicaid. His past opposition to federal health care programs of all varieties appears to have been his primary positive attribute to Republicans in Congress and at the White House.

ACTION: The Georgia 6th Congressional district will now be having a special election. Democrats Jon Ossoff, Sen. Ron Slotin, Rep. Sally Harrell, and Josh McLaurin have declared. Learn more about the candidates, pick the one you're excited about, and donate time or money to help them get elected. Jon Ossoff appears to be the front runner, with support from Reps. John Lewis and Hank Johnson and Ga. Sen. Minority Leader Stacy Abrams. The timing of the special election is yet to be set, but likely will occur this summer. Off-cycle elections have generally low turn-out, so get out the vote efforts will play a HUGE role in determining Price's replacement.
