The battle to stop the confirmation of Betsy DeVos as the Department of Education Secretary was lost and with that comes consequences.  For the most part, it's too early to gain visibility in the changes being put into motion.  However, Taylor Hansen, former lobbyist for the largest group of for-profit college and recently Trump-appointed official with the Department of Education, has already achieved one of his goals.

In a not particularly surprising move, President Trump weighed in on the government's role in protecting, or in this case not protecting, transgender rights.

The Trump administration on Wednesday revoked federal protections for transgender students who sought the right to use the public school restrooms that match their gender identity, taking a stand on a contentious issue that has become the central battle over LGBT rights.

While the President regularly spouts "support" for the military, his actual policies make active military members' and their families' lives worse.

Betsy DeVos has been confirmed as Education Secretary. Two Republicans, Senators Murkowski (AK) and Collins (ME), joined the entire Democratic caucus to force an historic tie-breaking vote from Vice President Pence. Public educators and parents of special needs children across the nation weep.

ACTION: Call your Senators, both Democratic and Republican, to either thank them for standing up for schoolchildren or to let them know you will be fighting against their reelections because of this vote.

Multiple Republican Senators are still undecided regarding the upcoming confirmation vote for Betsy DeVos' nomination to head the Department of Education. Senators Collins (R-ME) and Murkowski (R-AK) have announced their intentions to vote no. If every Democrat plus these 2 Republicans vote no, Vice President Pence will break a 50-50 tie to confirm. Only 1 more Republican Senator needs to vote no.
