Seven Federal Lawsuits Filed Against Trump's Voter Fraud Commission

In May 2017, an executive order was signed to create a commision on "election integrity."  Their work began in early July with significant opposition and loud dissent.  The Election Integrity Commission is run by Kris Kobach, who has made voter suppression via a crusade against non-existent voter fraud, the central issue of his devious life.  Kobach "has a lengthy record of illegally disenfranchising eligible voters in Kansas" as so kindly stated by Connecticut's Secretary of State, Denise Merrill.

We must view this effort to eliminate non-existent voter fraud for exactly what it is - voter suppression - supported not just by Trump, but by a Republican Party determined to hold onto power at all costs. Fortunately for our nation, democracy, and society, many people and organizations are fighting back intensely.

The NAACP Legal Defense Fund on Tuesday filed a lawsuit in federal court alleging that President Trump's voting commission “was formed with the intent to discriminate against voters of color in violation of the Constitution.”   The lawsuit alleges that the commission is designed “to reaffirm President Trump’s false allegations of millions of 'illegal' votes, and to provide a basis for actions that will target African-American and Latino voters, rather than objectively analyze an issue of national significance.” The group is asking the federal court to order the commission to cease all activities.

The NAACP Legal Defense Fund lawsuit is the seventh federal lawsuit filed against the voting commission so far. All seve lawsuits are detailed in the Washington Post article linked below.

In addition, several separate challenges have been filed by groups at the state level, in Indiana, New Hampshire and Idaho.
