Jobs. Jobs. Where Are Those Jobs That Were Promised?

Candidate Trump had a populist tone to every campaign rally banging the drum for jobs.  Although all candidates and politicians say the same empty statements, Trump's delivery worked.  The focus on jobs caused millions to vote for him thinking he was actually going to implement policies to help them.  They did not realize that he had no intent nor ability to do so.  They bought the lie and we all pay the price.

Just a handful of recent news on the topic:

The auto industry, the primary driver of the U.S. manufacturing industry, is shedding jobs:

Trump’s promises to revive the struggling American manufacturing industry faces new headwinds as the automotive sector, the largest driver of manufacturing jobs, announces thousands of new layoffs.... Ford has said it will cut as many as 1,400 jobs. General Motors has cut production at four U.S. assembly lines, costing 4,400 workers their jobs. Fiat Chrysler laid off another 1,300 workers at their assembly line in Detroit.

“I think that when we talk about making American great again, a lot of that is tied up in how auto manufacturing is doing,” said Mark Muro, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution’s Metropolitan Policy Program. “This next period, auto will not drive the overall manufacturing [sector], will not generate significant manufacturing employment."

That "deal" Trump struck with Carrier prior to inauguration?  Not much of a deal at all as it turns out. Just a show put on by a con man to lie to our country.

The Carrier plant in Indianapolis that Trump convinced to stay open late last year will lay off more than 600 employees beginning next month.... CNBC reported that the deal struck by Trump before he assumed office isn’t working out as expected, and more than 600 employees will soon face layoffs.   the $16 million that the company promised to invest in the facility as part of Trump’s deal will go toward automation in the factory, which would ultimately result in fewer jobs.

Another plant Trump visited earlier this year is cutting manufacturing jobs.

Boeing Co. said... it will lay off fewer than 200 workers at its 787 Dreamliner campus in North Charleston, S.C., a plant that Trump visited earlier this year, where he promoted his “Buy America” pledge.... Trump visited the South Carolina plant in February for the debut of Boeing’s 787-10. While there, he touted his efforts to save American jobs and threatened a “substantial penalty” on companies that shift their operations overseas.... Boeing is the second business that Trump has visited to later announce layoffs.
