Trump Admin Will Issue Rule Allowing Denial of Healthcare to Transgender Patients
The evil and hate is the point. Let's not mince words. This is a government of Republicans who are attempting to discriminate against everyone except non-white males.
Trump administration officials are working on a new rule that... could blow up the nondiscrimination protections of the Affordable Care Act for LGBTQ individuals and make it easier for hospitals, physicians or insurers to deny care or coverage to transgender people for religious reasons.
The American Civil Liberties Union and other rights groups have said the change may create a situation where physicians and other care providers could provide substandard care to LGBTQ individuals — or abstain from treating them in the first place — under the cover of religious freedom.
The potential new HHS rule is part of a broader effort by social conservatives in the Trump administration to change the language around LGBTQ people in official documents, regulations and the law... includes adding references to “marriage between man and woman” and removing terms such as gender rights.
Stated simply, the Trump administration, on behalf of many Republicans, is working hard to make it easier for doctors, hospitals and insurance companies to deny LGBTQ people coverage by allowing them to invoke religious excuses.
The issue of whether federal nondiscrimination laws apply to sexual orientation and gender identity is one of the most consequential, unsettled civil rights questions of our era.
The Supreme Court on Monday [April 22, 2019] jumped into the debate, announcing it had accepted three cases involving gay and transgender employees and related to anti-discrimination laws in employment.
