PROOF: Trump, Ross Added Citizenship Question to 2020 Census to Directly Benefit Whites

secret trove of documents were revealed Thursday showing that the Trump administration added a citizenship question to the 2020 census as part of a right-wing plan to change how voting districts are drawn in the United States—a plan hatched to benefit “non-Hispanic whites.”

A major Republican redistricting strategist played a role in the Trump administration's push to get a citizenship question on forms for the 2020 census.

Thomas Hofeller, who died last August, concluded in a 2015 report that adding the question would produce the data needed to redraw political maps that would be "advantageous to Republicans and Non-Hispanic Whites," according to a court filingreleased Thursday [5/30/19].

Hofeller later ghostwrote an early draft of the administration's request for the question and helped form a reason for adding the question to forms for the national head count....  administration officials were aware that including the question "would not benefit Latino voters, but rather would facilitate significantly reducing their political power"...

This is worse than anyone thought. This is white supremacy.  Hofeller even said himself before his death that no one would stand for his proposal.

In his 2015 study commissioned by a conservative news outlet, he wrote that using census responses to a citizenship question for redistricting "can be expected to provoke a high degree of resistance from Democrats and the major minority groups in the nation."

"The chances of a U.S. Supreme Court's mandate to add a citizenship question to the 2020 Decennial Census are not high," he wrote.

That undercounting would lead to fewer Democratic-leaning congressional districts, under-apportioning money for areas with uncounted residents, and even to decreasing the electoral college representation of Hispanic-heavy states like Texas, California, and New York. It would make presidential elections like 2016—where Trump "won" the most electoral votes despite losing the popular vote—more likely.

The census counts the population once a decade to apportion seats in Congress, providing figures to map House districts and contributing to enforcement of the Voting Rights Act by showing the Justice Department where minorities live. The population figures are used throughout government to divide billions in federal spending each year.

If the question is included on the census, Census Bureau research shows it is highly likely to scare households with noncitizens, especially within the Latinx and immigrant communities, from taking part in the constitutionally mandated headcount of every person living in the U.S.

Wilbur Ross, the highly corrupt Commerce Secretary has lied under oath about the Citizenship Question and proven to have done so.  Now he and OUR Department of Justice are hiding documents and the people's House of Representatives has held them both in contempt.  WE KNOW WHAT THEY ARE HIDING.

Trump asserted executive privilege Wednesday to keep secret the documents related to adding a citizenship question to the census as a House panel voted to hold two Cabinet members in contempt for defying subpoenas for the documents.

.... the Oversight and Reform Committee voted 24-15 to hold Attorney General William Barr and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross in contempt for defying subpoenas for documents about how a citizenship question was added to the 2020 census.

The Citizenship question is now in the hands of an illegitimate Supreme Court stacking with Republicans.  Hoping for a miracle here on a case that ought to be a 9-0 vote in favor of the good guys.

The Supreme Court, which has called the census "the linchpin of the federal statistical system," heard a case about the citizenship question in April, and a ruling is likely by the end of June. The court will basically decide whether Ross had ample reason to ask about citizenship, followed acceptable procedures and acted within the bounds of the Constitution.

Ummm... it's been proven already that Ross lied and he should be in jail for such.
