BE SMART ABOUT: ATTORNEY GENERAL JEFF SESSIONS - Tells Prosecutors to Jail and Deport as Many Immigrants as Possible

It can be a struggle in daily conversations to explain the real life impact this election has every day on the decisions being made to govern our society.  This election has put numerous individuals in positions of real, tangible power who are spending every hour of every day implementing policies in an efficient, destructive manner.  They are doing the exact things their prior words, actions, and lobbyist bosses should have made obvious.

BE SMART ABOUT is our new, unfortunate series highlighting examples of those in power who you need to stay informed about so you can share this knowledge and together we can Be Smart and Actively Dissent.

Today we discuss a recent action of Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who will no doubt be a repeat participant in the BE SMART ABOUT series. It's likely all of those in this series will end up repeated again and again.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions directed federal prosecutors across the country Tuesday to make immigration cases a higher priority and look for opportunities to bring serious felony charges against those who cross the border illegally ... and expand the Justice Department’s role in immigration enforcement.

Sessions directed each U.S. attorney to appoint a border security coordinator to oversee immigration prosecutions and to make immigration offenses ... “higher priorities.”

He told prosecutors to consider whether they could bring felony charges against those who had entered the United States illegally multiple times and to evaluate whether they could charge illegal immigrants with aggravated identity theft, which carries a mandatory two-year prison sentence.

He announced that he would expand a program to deport undocumented immigrants convicted of crimes after they serve their prison sentences, and he said Tuesday that he would increase the number of immigration judges to speed the removal of others.

“This is a new era,” Sessions said. “This is the Trump era.”

Indeed it is the Trump era, Mr. Sessions.  For now...... Be Smart about Jeff Sessions.  Actively Dissent.
