Congressional Republicans have fought unrelentingly for years to weaken the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, put into place under the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010.  The purpose of the CFPB is to promote fairness and transparency for mortgages, credit cards, and other consumer financial products and services. The CFPB was created to provide a single point of accountability for enforcing federal consumer financial laws and protecting consumers in the financial marketplace.

What happened?

By a simple majority vote, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., set a new precedent in the Senate that will ease the confirmation for President Trump's Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch on Friday, after 30 more hours of debate on the floor. "This will be the first, and last, partisan filibuster of a Supreme Court justice," said McConnell in a closing floor speech.

Steve Bannon has been removed from his role on the National Security Council just months after he was elevated to the position which no previous top White House political adviser had ever held.

The shift was orchestrated by Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster, who was tapped as Mr. Trump’s national security adviser after the resignation of Michael T. Flynn, who stepped down in February after being caught misleading Vice President Mike Pence and other White House officials about his contacts with Russia’s ambassador.

The Budget Cuts Series marches towards to examine the White House proposed budget cuts and learn what's hidden beneath the surface.  We will later update based on Congressional budget proposals and actions.  

The Interal Revenue Sservice is proposed to suger a $239 million reduced budget, the latest in a series of cuts since 2010 first imposed by the Republican Congress.  The IRS is an unsurprising target of Trump who previously complained was treating him unfairly.
