The White House continues to take aggressive, bigoted steps towards reducing the role of the federal government in fighting discrimination and protecting minorities.  It is doing so by cutting budgets, dissolving programs and appointing officials unsympathetic to previous practices.  In that post linked here many examples were noted.  Another way the Department of Justice is lessening justice for citizens it exists to protect is described below.

In early May 2017, Director John Thompson of the U.S. Census Bureau abruptly resgined after Congress refused to provide adequate funding for the upcoming 2020 census.

An administration uninterested in staffing federal agencies, at war with facts and eager to help Congress cut the budget is further endangering a cornerstone of American democracy: the duty to count all who live here.

Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) is working to proactively improve our nation at a time when most of our energy is spent combating Trump and Republicans to prevent the next awful thing they want to implement. Booker has introduced a bill to legalize marijuana in the U.S. and combat the racial injustices surrounding it at a time when embattled Attorney General Jeff Sessions and fellow Republicans are attempting to reverse state legalization.
