The United States - Taliban Agreement Is Not a Peace Deal

In mid-February at a meeting with Congressional leaders in Munich, corrupt psychopath Mike Pompeo made a commitment: the Afghan peace deal would NOT require the Afghan government to release Taliban prisoners. Then, the deal at the end of February required them to release 5,000.  Not in exchange for a peace deal even.... just for a week cease fire.

Please note: the Republican Party lost its mind when President Obama released five Taliban guys to get US Army soldier Bowe Bergdahl back home.  Now Trump cuts a deal to release 5,000 Taliban prisoners.

U.S. special envoy Zalmay Khalilzad and the Taliban’s political chief, Abdul Ghani Baradar, signed a deal in Doha, Qatar, to begin the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan.

In exchange, the Taliban is assuring it will not allow Afghanistan to be used by terrorists to attack the United States.

Under the deal signed Saturday, the United States will draw down from the 12,000 troops currently in Afghanistan to 8,600 troops in 135 days. The remaining troops will continue to fight terrorist groups such as al Qaeda and ISIS.

The deal calls for a full withdrawal in 14 months if the Taliban lives up to its commitments.... a long road remains before peace in Afghanistan, including intra-Afghan talks, where the entire deal still has the potential to collapse.

In exchange for giving up ABSOLUTELY ZERO, the Taliban get 4,400 US troops out and 5,000 of their fighters back. The rest of the deal is all promises that they can pretty much break without consequence, and therefore immediately did.

Fighting resumed in Afghanistan on Monday, leading some to note that the peace accord, which the combatants signed on Saturday, may be the shortest on record—a fitting pseudo-coda to the longest war in U.S. history. But in fact, contrary to many media reports, the document in question is not a peace accord, nor does it pretend to be one. It is instead, as the title puts it, an “Agreement for Bringing Peace to Afghanistan.” (Italics added.)

... so the Taliban announced on Monday that offensive operations would resume, and they did, with a bomb that killed three people and injured 11 at a soccer match in the eastern part of the country.

I’m sure those Iranians Pompeo is always huffing about are scared and intimidated by our surrender in Afghanistan.
