DeVos' Proposed Education Cuts Go Way Deeper Than The Special Olympics
At the Smart Dissent Education page linked here, we have written over and over and over about the heinous efforts of the worthless Betsy DeVos to destroy our education system. Instead of drastically needed help for our schools and students, DeVos repeatedly inflict more harm in new ways.
Now her Education Department is proposing savage budget cuts to vital programs. Let's shine a spotlight on what she's trying to do in hopes it exposes her to more sustained criticism.
[Last] week, Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos found herself at the center of a firestorm...proposed eliminating federal funding for the Special Olympics.... The moment blew up, even though the administration’s budget was released weeks ago and the cut was previously proposed twice without success.
But advocates say the focus on the Special Olympics obscures the much deeper cuts DeVos is trying to make to other areas....
It aims to cut over $7 billion from the Department of Education overall.
Another example of how the president's budget hurts American families: $7.1 billion in cuts to our education programs. How does this make our country greater? https://t.co/8V5ANMtPKG

DeVos is destroying the Department of Education and in turn our students and future.
The Education Department’s proposed budget would eliminate 29 education programs, including a program that operates after-school programs for low-income kids, one that provides professional development for teachers and one that helps provide mental health services.
Other areas.... that directly fund special education services are not being targeted. The administration is proposing that those funding levels remain flat....advocates say current funding for such grants isn’t nearly enough.
But DeVos proposes large increases in taxpayer spending to benefit private corporations whom she is owned by.
Instead, DeVos has prioritized other areas, like charter schools and private-school vouchers. The proposed budget calls for tens of millions of dollars more to support charter schools and an increase in funding for a school voucher program....
A focus on school choice ― at the expense of traditional public schools ― is an attack on students with disabilities.... said Curtis Decker, the executive director of the National Disability Rights Network.
DeVos doesn't care. She's back on the water on one of her mega yachts that she hid for tax evasion purposes.
