Trump Admin is Hurrying to Destroy as Many Regulations as Possible Before Election

Regulations exist to protect us.  It's a very simple concept.  They are enacted through years of hard work to help society function.  Republicans stop most of them from ever coming to be while destroying the few that are enacted TO PROTECT US.

....the administration has been particularly focused on the environment.  Trump’s drive to dismantle major climate and environmental policies is now mostly complete.... the rule changes are leading to more pollution-related illnesses and are accelerating climate change.

There is a particuar reason to hurry right now before Trump's term end and they know it extremely well because they used to it to gut President Obama's final victories.

Shortly after taking office, Trump and congressional Republicans found a way to [destroy] regulations.... They began using a 1996 law — called the Congressional Review Act, and rarely used before — that allowed them to reverse rules enacted by the Obama administration in its final few months.

Now that Trump’s first term is winding down, administration officials realize that the same law could undo some of their policies — if the Democrats win in November. So the administration has been hurrying to finish as many regulations as possible this spring, to make sure they are not vulnerable to reversal under the Review Act.

With elections looming, the administration has sought to wrap up some of its biggest regulatory priorities quickly, said Hana V. Vizcarra, a staff attorney at Harvard Law School’s Environmental and Energy Law Program. Further delays could leave the new rules vulnerable to reversal under the Congressional Review Act if Democrats are able to retake Congress and the White House in November, she said.

Let's make their work worthwhile and VOTE THEM OUT.

In the meantime, Trump's administration has been busy continuing to reverse nearly 100 environmental rules.

After three years in office, the Trump administration has dismantled most of the major climate and environmental policies the president promised to undo... weakened Obama-era limits on planet-warming carbon dioxide emissions from power plants and from cars and trucks, and rolled back many more rules governing clean air, water and toxic chemicals. Several major reversals have been finalized in recent weeks as the country has struggled to contain the spread of the new coronavirus.

We highly recommend you read through this New York Times feature explaining the many environmental protections that have been gutted.  You can sort by topic, similar to have Smart Dissent's web site works:
